NCCU School of Business CIS faculty partnership
Industries and government organizations that are vital to the national economy and security depend upon enterprise computing systems to run essential applications and manage vital data. The demand for large-scale systems skills will continue to grow and universities are seeking ways to prepare students to meet this critical need.
Marist College has been awarded a $400,000 two-year grant from the National Science Foundation to build an academic and industry community to “Revitalize Undergraduate Education in Enterprise Computing.”
Marist College, Illinois State University (ISU), North Carolina Central University (NCCU), University of Arkansas, and Widener University are taking the lead in building the community of experts. In collaboration with their academic and corporate partners, they propose to reshape the undergraduate program to teach essential enterprise computing technology principles. Founding partners include Binghamton University, Monroe College, San Jose State University, Stevens Institute of Technology, Aetna, Bank of America, BMC Software, Citigroup, IBM Corporation, Morgan Stanley, Progressive Insurance, Travelers Insurance, and Verizon.
According to Professor Cameron Seay, CIS Lead Professor, “This partnership is the first of its kind to fund collaboration among universities focusing on mainframe education. The CIS faculty is honored to participate in such a unique partnership. The IT industry has enthusiastically embraced this partnership and our students will benefit from the direct involvement of our industry partners.”
